Concert Junkie Take III
This should probably be called Rock Star Stalking or something now. Things have really gone to a whole other level this year. I’ve never been to so many shows or met so many rock stars in one year (I think it’s up to 12 rockers), not to mention the whole tour bus thing. I’m crazy I tell you, ::craaaazy::!
Anyway, I just wanted to bring this entry over to the new site so it was all up to date. If you haven’t already, enjoy!
<--- original entry --->
I know I haven’t been to as many shows as a lot of people, but I’ve been to my fair share. And so many of them (usually the ones I went to with Julie) have some story to go with it. So I decided to actually type up a list of all the major shows I’ve been to. Plus, my memory sucks, so I wanted a record before I go completely senile. Read on if you’re really bored.
(I started this back a few months ago and I haven’t completely finished it...I need to add more links, but I just wanted to get it up there before I forgot about it.)
The List
Def Leppard w/Queensryche
September 22, 1988, Brendan Byrne Arena, NJ
Missed Queensryche because my friend’s dad was late in picking us up, but at the time I didn’t really know them or care. Now I kinda do.
Bon Jovi w/Skid Row and Billy Squire
June 11, 1989, Meadowlands Arena, NJ
Couldn’t find my dad after the show, but we had fun. Dad did not. I was never going to another concert in NJ again...well, until I could get there on my own. Julie was there with her dad, but since we didn’t actually know each other then and didn’t go together I can’t blame her.
Poison w/Warrant
November 23, 1990, Nassau Collesium, Long Island, NY
Huey Lewis and the News
June 1991, Jones Beach Theater, Long Island, NY
The one and only concert I went to with my entire family. We saw some serious lightning that night, and then a while owl flew over us. I swear it meant something.
Stop the Violence Concert w/Def Leppard, Bryan Adams & Richard Marx
1992, Madison Square Garden, NYC
A Z100 concert
White Trash
1992, Queensborough Community College, Queens, NY
Oh boy. White Trash is an understatement. They played for 15 freaking minutes and sucked. This is the first of the disaster shows seen with Julie.
Danger Danger
1992?, Some club on the Island I think owned by Dee Snider that burned down
I fought this really short chic for a Steve West’s sweat rag that he threw into the audience. Ridiculous, I know, but I still have it saved somewhere.
Extreme w/Saigon Kick
1993, Beacon Theater, NYC
Standing room only sucks ass. oooo...but in searching for a website, I’ve found that Nuno cut his hair (sigh), but has a younger brother the same age as me that plays bass in his band. Hey—who says I have no shot?!
Def Leppard
1993, Nassau Collesium, Long Island, NY
Hey, what do you know. An awesome show with Julie! We had third row seats. I was a very happy person that night. I even mouthed ‘I love you’ to Rick Savage and he smiled this shy sort of smile.
Tribe Called Quest w/De La Soul
1993, SUNYA RACC, Albany, NY
Candlebox w/Sponge and The Flaming Lips
1994, SUNYA RACC, Albany, NY
ooooo.....lost of pretty bubbles…
Soundgarden
June 1994, The Armory, NYC
Ask Julie how hot it was, about the LIRR strike and why the cab driver with long nails wasn’t wearing any pants.
Run DMC w/Buffalo Tom and some girl group
September 1994, Rutgers University
Thanks to Run DMC I think I suffered some serious hearing damage that night.
Live w/Sponge and Our Lady Peace
March 1995, SUNYA RACC, Albany, NY
Met the lead singer of Sponge whose name I still don’t know cuz he signed my piece of paper “Live in ‘95.”
Das EFX
April 1995, right behind my dorm room on Dutch Quad, SUNYA, Albany, NY
Candlebox
November 1995, SUNYA RACC, Albany, NY
Stabbing Westward
1995, The Birch Hill, somewhere in NJ
Another one to ask Julie about—a 12-hour ordeal to see this show. But it was worth it. I don’t think I’ve ever taken so many different modes of transportation to see a show.
Candlebox
1996, Malibu, Long Island, NY
I endured the front row and people falling on my head. Made massive amounts of eye contact with Kevin Martin, sometimes for entire song verses, and then met him after the show! Unfortunately I’m a moron and couldn’t spit out a single word to him I was so paralyzed by awe.
Dogstar
August 1996?, MulCahey’s, Long Island, NY
For some reason, I always forget that I actually saw Keanu in person. I still just can’t believe it. He was so freaking adorable. The bouncers were seriously scary, but they didn’t get my camera
Soundgarden
November 1996?, Roseland, NYC
Note to all rock singers: it may not be wise to request that all the lights shut off in the middle of a show where there are no seats and alcohol is being served. Chris Cornell had a cold and I think he was mixing alcohol with medicine. Not good.
Rampage
Fall 1997, RPI, Troy, NY
A completely accidental concert with my brother and Jessica
Puff Daddy & The Family World Tour
November 7, 1997, Pepsi Arena, Albany, NY
What can I say. I was in my ghetto phase and I really loved Mase.
Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz
April 1998, NYS Museum, Albany, NY
They had that song Deja Vu (Uptown Baby) that was huge, but they sucked ASS. They, like White Trash, played for like 15 minutes—only four songs. And the bathroom reaked thanks to some girl puking her brains out.
Foo Fighters
May 8, 1998, SUNYA RACC, Albany, NY
Pearl Jam
September 10, 1998, Madison Square Garden, NYC
Our seats were behind the stage, but they were fantastic—the seats and Pearl Jam. It was right around the time that all that stuff with Kenneth Starr and Bill Clinton was going on, so they had this delivery of boxes and boxes of files to the stage. Plus there was the oh so pretty and glittery disco ball.
The Flys
February 1999, Valentine’s, Albany, NY
In a word: biceps. The lead singer was doing chinups and it was hot. Met one of the other guys after the show. He signed a $1 bill cuz that was all I had on hand.
Red Hot Chili Peppers w/the Foo Fighters
April 3 2000, Pepsi Arena, Albany, NY
Dido, Tara Maclean, Jill Sobule, and a bunch of other female singers
May 6, 2000, Proctor’s Theater, Albany, NY
I didn’t really want to go, but I did like that “I Kissed a Girl” song. And it was right after that that Dido became a huge hit.
Poison w/Dokken, Cinderella & Slaugher
June 14, 2000, SPAC, Saratoga, NY
I went home with Eric Brittingham’s guitar pick and Blas Elias’s badly beaten drumstick. Nothin’ but a good time.
*NSYNC
July 12, 2000, Pepsi Arena, Albany, NY
One word: brainwashing.
Pearl Jam
August 27 2000, SPAC, Saratoga, NY
The concert that cost me a friendship.
Fuel, Dexter Freebish and others
December 7, 2000, Proctor’s Theater, Albany, NY
I met two members of Dexter Freebish. I have a picture with them too. The lead singer was a hottie.
Bon Jovi
May 20, 2001, Pepsi Arena, Albany, NY
Wait...what is this...a disaster free show with Julie? Can’t be. But it was, and it was one of the best ever.
The Bacon Brothers
June 29, 2001, McGeary’s, Albany, NY
Ask Eva how she was mean to me and made me leave my excellent view of Kevin.
Incubus & I forget who else Phantom Planet
June 12, 2002, Pepsi Arena, Albany, NY
I can’t believe I saw Phantom Planet and didn’t even know it. I blame it on the ‘date’ I was on. I was probably more focused on small talk than on the hotness and greatness right in front of me.
Hoobastank & some other bands (Hopefully Phantom Planet was not among them!)
October 8, 2002, Northern Lights, Clifton Park, NY
The night I fell in love with Dan Estrin.
Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band
December 10, 2002, Pepsi Arena, Albany, NY
I waited 18 years to see Bruce and he did not disappoint.
Bon Jovi w/The Goo Goo Dolls
March 3, 2003, Pepsi Arena
This time Spooky accompaniedJulie and I to this show.
Pearl Jam
April 29, 2003, Pepsi Arena
I’ve never seen that much pot smoke in my life. That, the alcohol and the aforementioned disco ball made me a little dizzy.
Lollapalooza w/Incubus, Queens of the Stone Age, The Donnas, Audioslave, Jane’s Addiction and more
July 30, 2003, Jones Beach, NY
Jules and I will be at it again next week. Cross your fingers!
<--- end original entry --->
Ok, so Lollapalooza was a success! Just long and tiring. And since then…
Hoobastank
Dec, 2003, Northern Lights, Clifton Park
Met the band!
Guster w/Ingram Hill
March 18, 2004, RPI Fieldhouse
Julie, Spooky and I braved the crazy cold and snow and met Guster and Justin, the lead singer if Ingrahm Hill.
Incubus w/The Vines Sparta
June 26, 2004
Nassau Collesium
Sebastian Bach
July, 2004—I think? When was that?
Northern Lights, Clifton Park, NY
Phantom Planet w/Soft and The Harlem Shakes
April 30, 2005
The Knitting Factory, NYC
Most. Amazing. Show. Ever. Seriously—a life changer.
All-American Rejects w/Hello Goodbye and Armor for Sleep
May 7, 2005
Northern Lights, Clifton Park
Met all the AAR boys, Spooky almost got a tatoo, my shirt was a hit, and Tyson was mute and had a sneezing attack.
Butch Walker w/The Fags and The Low Millions
May 12, 2005
Northern Lights, Clifton Park
There isn’t enough room to talk about this also life-changing event—the day we got on the tour bus…
Butch Walker w/The Low Millions
May 14, 2005
Iron Horse Music Hall, Northampton, MA
...or this, the second time we got on the bus.
Def Leppard and Bryan Adams
July 9, 2005, Coney Island
“Does anyone have a shaahpie?” Dude...we met 3/5 of Def Lep!
Phantom Planet, Fuel & Maroon 5
July 31, 2005, Toms Riverfest, Toms River, NJ
How happy am I that I bought my camera in time for this show?
Backstreet Boys w/The Click-5 and some exceptionally young girl
August 7, 2005, SPAC
Julie and I did not go to see BSB. We went for—and met!—The Click-5. Possibly the cutest. band. ever.
LSD aka Butch Walker
August 26, 2005, Don Hill’s, NYC
Butch Walker
August 27, 2005, Jones Beach
Ok, so we didn’t actually attend the concert, but we did hang out on the beach and listen to the soundcheck and the perfomance.
Butch Walker
August 28, 2005, SPAC
Can anyone say Walker Stalker?
Motley Crue
Sept. 3, 2005, SPAC
One word...titties!!!!!
